Heat on earth has tremendously increased due to various natural and man made reasons. At this juncture, everyone needs some type of domestic appliance which shall help them to cool themselves from the burning temperature. In olden days, manually powered primitive fans were used which has been evolved into modern day fans. At the moment, you feel like you need a fan, one cannot step in the showroom to purchase.
You need to know more features like the type of the fan, place of installation of the fan, budget, efficiency, power etc.
In this article, you can harvest valuable information about the characteristics of a fan which are suitable for different places.
- Size of the room
The first and the foremost aspect to consider before purchasing a fan for your home is the size of the room you are about to install the fan. A room with a bigger size cannot be circulated with ample air by installing a fan with smaller blades. Using smaller fans shall only push the air to a limited extent. So, it is impossible for a small fan to ventilate a big room. But, a bigger fan can do that job more easily. Fans are not devices manufactured to cool the environment. They just move the air from one place to another and so it is crucial to fixing your fan at a place in your room where you spend more time, most probably above your bed.
- Types of fan
Fans are available in various forms which involve, stand-up fans, ceiling fans, window fans, tower fans, exhaust fans, pedestal fans, etc. Although all the fans bring air into the room, they do not work similarly. A stand-up fan can push the air in a horizontal direction and hence it can work efficiently when it is placed near an open window. The ceiling fans are fixed on the ceiling of the room which pushes air vertically downwards. They are of two types of ceiling fans involving flush mount and down rod models each of which serves a different purpose. Unlike a ceiling fan, pedestal fans can be used to suck out unwanted stink and smoke from your living environment. Knowing these details choose your fans in such a way that it will meet your requirements without any discrepancy.
- Ceilings
The height of the ceiling in a home greatly confines the type of fan you are about to buy. For low ceilings, you should not prefer the ceiling fans with down rod as you may encounter the speedy wings accidentally when you lift your arm. Further, for taller people, these fans shall prove to be an absolute nuisance because they will have to confront the fan blades every time they stand. For houses with sloppy ceilings, the slope ceiling mounts with down rods should be used to hang your ceiling fan. Also, make sure that the blades are at least 7 feet above the ground level in order to ensure safety.
- Fan control
The versatility of a fan depends heavily on the refined controls of a fan, regardless of its type. Fan control shall be of many types which involve wall control, remote control, reverse rotation, pull chains etc each of which serves a unique requirement. Controls on the wall are a commercially available fan control which can be easily accessed by anyone. The remote controlled fan is the recently emerged technique incorporated in some expensive fans.
Folks always intend to switch off their fans due to the freezing weather at late night. But, in a wall controlled fan, you have to get up from the bed and then switch off your fan. But, late at night every one of you shall certainly feel lazy to get up and switch your fan off. Remote controlled fans shall be greatly useful at that time because you can simply switch off your fan by pressing the remote. Pull chains hanging at the middle of the fan can also control the fan by pulling the chain.
- Size of the blades
Although the motor in the fan performs well, it is exactly the blades which circulate the air. Therefore, while purchasing a fan it is crucial to focus on the size of the blades depending on the volume of the room. Fans with small blades can sweep only limited area and so they can circulate air only for a confined space. But, when it comes to big room the size of the blades should be in proportion to the size of the room.
Generally blades come in various sizes like 30, 42, 44, 46, 50, 52, & 60 inches; greater the length, greater is the air flow. Additionally, the number of the blades used in the fans also affects the air flow inside the room. Generally speaking, the standard number of the blades to circulate enough air is just 4. Make sure that you don’t buy a fan with more than 4 blades because it has less space between the blades to capture the air.
- Blade finish
Of course, the finish of the blade has nothing do with the performance of the fan; it can add beauty to your room when the texture of your fan matches with your room. Especially, kid’s rooms are always supported by ceiling fans which have decorated blades. For extremely playful kids, who always try something mischievous, it is always better to install a pedestal fan in their room. There are also some expensive fans which provide some illusionary effects when they are switched on and those fans shall be very much suitable for kid’s rooms. Moreover, there are also blades which has textures similar to oak, walnut, cherry, faux granite, rosewood etc. which can provide enough contentment to the user.
- Timers
Usually, folks switch on the fan before going to bed and some hours, the temperature falls and the breeze becomes cold and chill. Possibly, most of you shall wake up after you encounter such a cold wind and then you try to switch your fan off. Timers in the fans prove to be clever solution to your problem. The recently evolved timers in the fans are not meant for knowing the time at midnight, but they can be set to run for some hours. After the specified hours, the fan automatically switches off thereby bestowing the individual with a peaceful sleep.
- Light fixtures
The availability of the light is not a highly required aspect in the fan, as most of you shall switch off your light before going to bed. But, the availability of the light at the middle of the fan shall serve as a night lamp. Also, they can reduce your power bills to a great extent since both the equipments are installed as one element.
- Speed and curvature
No matter of whatever type of controls or whatever model of finish your fans posses, it is the speed of the fan which captures enough air. To achieve good speed, a motor of eminent quality is a must. Also the along the length of the blade is very important to bring down the air. Suggesting a fan with minimum curvature can provide you only with minimum air flow.
- Expensive
Not all the fans available in the market are expensive. Stand-up fans, pedestal fans also circulate a good amount of air throughout the room but, they also prove to be cost-efficient. There are also ceiling fans which are available at low budget, but a fan with sophisticated facilities like timers, lights etc shall be little expensive than conventional models.
